Orchidopexy

Orchidopexy is a surgical procedure to reposition an undescended testicle into the scrotum and secure it in place. It is commonly performed in infants and young boys with cryptorchidism (undescended testis) but may also be done in adults for testicular torsion prevention. The procedure is done under general anesthesia through a small groin or scrotal incision. The testicle is carefully mobilized and placed into the scrotum, where it is fixed with sutures. In some cases, laparoscopic orchidopexy is used, especially for intra-abdominal testicles. Recovery is quick, with most patients resuming normal activities within a few days. Potential complications include infection, testicular atrophy, or recurrence. Post-operative care involves avoiding heavy lifting and wearing scrotal support. Orchidopexy improves fertility potential and reduces the risk of testicular cancer in later life. It is a safe and effective procedure, ensuring normal testicular development and function.
